Attend Our Memorial Day Ceremony
As communities across Wisconsin prepare to honor the brave men and women who served our country, the village of Hales Corners will once again come together for a meaningful Memorial Day tradition. On Monday, May 25, 2026, residents, veterans, families, and community supporters are invited to attend the 15th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Hales Corners Park.
Hosted by the Veterans Memorial Committee, American Legion Post #299, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10394, the ceremony commemorates both Memorial Day and the dedication of the Hales Corners Veterans Memorial in 2012. Over the past fifteen years, the memorial has become an important gathering place for reflection, remembrance, and gratitude within the community.
The brief ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. on May 25 at the Veterans Memorial located within Hales Corners Park. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and take part in honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
Bring Your Old Flag for Proper Retirement
In addition to the ceremony, organizers are inviting attendees to bring old or worn American flags for proper retirement. Following the ceremony, the collected flags will be respectfully retired by members of the VFW before the community lunch gathering. This meaningful tradition offers residents a respectful way to dispose of damaged flags while honoring the values and sacrifices they represent.
Remember the Sacrifices of Our Military Service Members
Memorial Day serves as a powerful reminder that freedom comes at a cost. Events like this provide an opportunity for neighbors, families, and younger generations to pause and reflect on the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of America’s military service members. The ceremony also highlights the continued commitment of local veterans organizations and volunteers who work tirelessly to preserve these traditions and ensure the stories of our heroes are never forgotten.
Stay for Lunch
Guests are also welcome to stay after the ceremony for a community lunch hosted at the VFW Post in Franklin, where hamburgers, hot dogs, and cold drinks will be served. The gathering offers an opportunity for veterans, families, and neighbors to connect and continue the spirit of remembrance and community fellowship.
The annual event is made possible through the dedication of local leaders and volunteers, including Donald G. Schwartz, member of the Veterans Memorial Committee and President of the Friends of Hales Corners Park & Pool. Their ongoing efforts help strengthen community connections while honoring the legacy of veterans who have served throughout generations.
Whether you are a veteran, a family member of someone who served, or simply wish to show your support and appreciation, this ceremony offers a meaningful way to observe Memorial Day in a respectful and community-centered setting.
