The two posts are in and the sand will be put down next week for the 50 x 80 volleyball sand court project in Hales Corners Park. This is the latest project sponsored by the Friends of Hales Corners Park & Pool. I co- founded this nonprofit organization 13 years ago after the biggest political scandal in Milwaukee County in over 100 years happened in which the political majority decided that this park and pool needed to close without hearing from the local community. I’m proud to say that the Veterans Memorial pictured in the background was completed five years ago and I was intimately involved in that community development too.
The plan is to hit the ground running next spring and summer with volleyball leagues in the Village of Hales Corners. Brand new basketball and tennis courts to the right of this picture nog pictured here were completed six years ago and a new pool liner and roof will be added to Hales Corners Pool and pool house next spring. The first replacement of both in 50 years. Finally, the outdoor shelter with two bathrooms will be built next summer on the other side of the park and the Alyson Dudek International Ice center will be 70 feet from the shelter and ready by December, 2016. Let me just say that all these improvements are happening between the private and public sectors working together for the greater good of the community. In terms of dollars the overall improvements since the political scandal happened is nearing $2 million. Not bad for a tiny community like the Village of Hales Corners with a population of less than 8000 people.
